Why You’ll Love It

  • Perfect for those on a low-carb/keto diet.
  • An easy chicken breast recipe that the whole family will love.
  • The sauce has so much flavor! You’ll want to put it on everything.
  • Made with simple ingredients you can easily find at the grocery store.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Chicken Breast: I used chicken breast for this recipe, but you’re welcome to use boneless and skinless chicken thighs, too.
  • Seasoning Mix: The chicken is seasoned with a blend of salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, and cayenne.
  • Yellow Onion: I caramelized the onion in butter to give the sauce a rich, flavorful base.
  • Tomato Paste: This is what gives the delicious sauce that signature tomato flavor.
  • Cream: Heavy cream is used to make the sauce ultra-creamy.
  • Bone Broth: This adds an umami flavor and helps to thin out the sauce.
  • Sundried Tomatoes: You can’t have Marry Me Chicken without sundried tomatoes!
  • Basil: Basil adds color, flavor, and essential nutrients to the dish.
  • Ziti Pasta: I used my low-carb, high-protein Kaizen Ziti Pasta. Feel free to use your base of choice.
  • Pecorino Cheese: I used shredded pecorino cheese, but parmesan works too.

Why Choose Kaizen Pasta?

This Kaizen Ziti Pasta (and any of the Kaizen pasta varieties)  lets you enjoy pasta again without all the carbs and heaviness you feel after your meal.

With only 6 grams of net carbs and 130 calories per serving, you can indulge in your favorite pasta dishes without spiking your blood sugar. This pasta is also high in protein, with 20 grams of protein per serving. It’s also high in fiber and entirely plant-based, so it’s also the perfect choice for vegans and vegetarians.

The best part about Kaizen pasta is that it doesn’t taste like your average carb-free pasta. It’s made with only natural ingredients, so it has the same texture and taste as regular pasta. The recipe is easy to follow and doesn’t require any special cooking skills or equipment – just boil the pasta according to package directions and enjoy!

The steps are simple, and I’m outlining them below, but be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to view the full, printable recipe card. You can also watch how it comes together in my Instagram reel!

STEP 1 – SEASON CHICKEN

Lay out the chicken on parchment paper or add them to a bowl. Season with salt, fresh cracked pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, and cayenne

Mix it well, ensuring all sides of the chicken are covered thoroughly.

STEP 2 – COOK CHICKEN

Next, heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the chicken in the pan and cook for about 3 minutes on each side. We’re not going to cook it fully — that step will come in later.

Once the chicken is seared and golden brown on both sides, transfer to a plate and set aside.

STEP 3 – MAKE CREAMY SAUCE

Finely dice the yellow onion and add it to the same pan with the butter. Mix well. Then season with salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of thyme.

When the onions turn translucent, add the tomato paste, cream, and bone broth, mixing well with a spatula.

STEP 4 – ADD TOMATOES & CHICKEN

Once you’ve made the sauce, add the sundried tomatoes, fresh basil, and transfer the chicken back to the pan

Spoon the sauce over the chicken, and put the lid on for about 4-5 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

STEP 5 – PREPARE PASTA

While the chicken continues cooking, prepare your pasta of choice according to the package instructions. I use my Kaizen Pasta to keep this low carb, and you can choose any of my high-protein and low-carb Kaizen pastas for this recipe!

STEP 6 – SERVE

Once cooked, turn off the heat. Remove the chicken from the pan and reserve some of the sauce for later to mix in with your pasta.

Plate up the pasta, top it with sliced chicken, fresh basil, and some freshly shredded pecorino. Add some more sauce (optional) & devour.

ENJOY!

FAQ

Which type of pasta has the lowest carbs?

While I will always recommend my Kaizen pasta as a top choice, you can always explore other types of pasta. Of course, you can always opt for zucchini noodles, or a cauliflower base like cauliflower mash, which are also super low in carbs. If you’re on the fence about which base to use, you can also check out my review of popular low-carb pasta options.

Can I use other cuts of chicken for this recipe?

Of course! Chicken breast is not required for this Marry Me Chicken pasta. You’re welcome to use chicken thighs or chicken cutlets, which might even add a richer flavor.

Keep in mind that whichever cut you choose will affect the cooking time and texture of your dish slightly.

How do I know when my chicken is done cooking?

The best way to know if your chicken is cooked is to use an instant-read meat thermometer. The internal temperature of the chicken should be 165°F before it’s ready to eat.

Storage

Store any leftover chicken pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.

To reheat, place a single serving in the microwave at 30-second increments until heated through. Or reheat over the stove on medium heat with a little extra cream or broth until heated through.
